Terms of use

Last updated 15 July 2026
The short version: CryptoTax UK computes estimates from the data you give it, using HMRC's published rules. It is a calculator, not an accountant — you are responsible for your own tax affairs and for checking figures before filing.

1. Who these terms are between

These terms are between you and Hale Technology Ltd, Liverpool, United Kingdom ("we", "us"), and cover the CryptoTax UK app and this website. By using either, you agree to them.

2. What the service is — and is not

CryptoTax UK produces computational estimates of UK capital gains tax and miscellaneous income figures, based on the transactions you enter or import and on HMRC's published share identification rules. It does not provide tax, legal, accounting, investment or financial advice, and nothing in the app or on this site should be treated as such. We are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, and nothing here is an invitation or inducement to buy, sell or hold cryptoassets.

3. Your responsibilities

4. Early access

During early access the app is provided free of charge and is still being tested. Features may change, be withdrawn, or misbehave. Export a backup regularly.

5. Intellectual property

The app, its calculation engine, this website and their content are owned by Hale Technology Ltd. You may use the app for your own personal tax affairs (or those you legitimately manage). You may not resell, reverse engineer, or misrepresent the app's output as professional advice.

6. Acceptable use

Do not use the app or site unlawfully, attempt to disrupt them, or use them to prepare figures you know to be false.

7. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited under the law of England and Wales, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Subject to that: the app is provided "as is"; we do not warrant that figures are error-free or suitable for your circumstances; and we are not liable for losses arising from inaccurate or incomplete input data, from reliance on estimates without verification, from HMRC penalties or interest, or for indirect or consequential loss. If you use the app as a consumer, these terms do not affect your statutory rights.

8. Changes and ending

We may update these terms; continued use after an update is acceptance of the new terms. You can stop using the app at any time — your data is on your device, and deleting the app deletes it.

9. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction (if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts).
